Llyn Tegid / Bala Lake.
A BDAA season ticket gives the holder the right to fish Llyn Tegid. BDAA day ticket
holders cannot fish the lake and a Snowdonia National Park (SNP) ticket must be bought
to do this. Day tickets are £3 and weekly tickets £8. They are obtained from the
parking ticket machine near the warden's office on the foreshore at Bala. A rod licence
is required, available at post offices or on line.
- Species present include pike, perch, roach, brown trout, grayling, eels, ruffe,
gwyniad, along with minnows, bullheads and loaches. Gudgeon are rare. Sea trout and
salmon migrate through the lake. Large ferox trout are present.

- The wardens permit fishing from a bivvy and overnight. Full blown camping gear –
tents etc. are not permitted.

- Access is from most of the lay-bys on the main road side and from the SNP parking
ground at Llangower on the B road side. Other access will be over private land and
will be a private arrangement between you and the landowner for which a fee may be
charged.
- Boats are allowed for fishing and they can be powered by electric trolling motors.
Petrol outboard engines are not permitted, these are for rescue boats only.
- BDAA or SNP do not hire boats. Bala watersports on the foreshore may be able to do
this.
- For lake levels you can check NRW gauges here. A PDF instruction file is available
here. As a guide, normal levels are between 1.2M and 1.6M. Above 1.9M the water begins
to cover the grass in front of the parking spaces and by about 2.3M the parking area
will be covered. At this level the amount of shoreline around the lake will be noticeably
reduced making access difficult in places. These figures are guidelines only and
not recommendations. They are given so that you can check conditions before travelling
any distance. SNP Llyn Tegid page is here. This has contact details for the warden
and a webcam. This is a view out of the warden's office. At normal levels you will
see two strips of grass between the camera and the water.
- NRW bye laws which include sizes and numbers of fish you can keep are here.
- Postcode for the warden’s office is: LL23 7SR
